Up to five participants enter a shared mixed reality environment via Oculus Quest 3. There, they interact with digital elements, a generative soundscape, and dancer Tasha Hess-Neustadt—becoming performers themselves in the process. Using a motion capture suit, Tasha’s movements are transmitted live onto an avatar in the virtual space. Virtual and physical dance merge and ultimately become one.

Inspired by Sophie K. Rosa’s concept of radical intimacy—which emphasizes care and community as acts of political resistance—Phygital Intimacy explores how current technologies like XR and AI can serve not as separating forces, but as bridges for connection. The project seeks to create moments of intimacy and togetherness among co-performers, as well as between human and machine.
